Running a two-mile in track?

You no doubt have run many miles and have had some distance running experience. The 3200 meter relay is, as you have stated, the first event. Generally the 3200 meter run is one of the last events. So go ahead and run your best for the 4x800 relay. After you run that don't go and sit down. Get in a long slow run so that your muscles don't tighten up. Later when you warm up for the 3200 meter run you don't need to run as long because you have already raced that day. You should have had a long enough recovery time between the events and even if you exerted all of your energy in the 3200m relay you will have gained it back for the 3200m run.
