Do you need a pport to go to Mexico when you're a US Permanent Resident, or just a Green Card and US DL?

Going to a wedding next weekend in Mexico, for the first time. I'm a US Permanent Resident, but was wondering if I should take my pport as well as my CA driver's license and Green Card? I don't want to be refused entry back across the border after a hard weekend drinking Coronas!
